Aoto Natural Stones are generally pretty soft and low grit. This stone develops mud very fast. It is very large, excellent condition, nearly no inclusions, or cracks. Mined in Kyoto. Good Aoto's are very hard to find today. One this nice is very rare.
It is a pretty nice stone. It does have some cracks and inclusions but there are two smooth faces. With a good coat of lacquer this stone will be much more secure and last a long time. Great for starting kasumi finish as it quickly develops mud but doesn't scratch deep like synthetic stones.
This stone is thin but tall. It has great feel and a Jnat expert knows you dont need a huge face to sharpen. Great shape for a Tanba.
